What is Igneous Rock?

It is formed by the cooling of molten magma forced up through cracks in the earth's crust is known as Igneous Rock. These rocks have crystalline structures and are hard, durable massive and stronger than other rocks

.For example, Syenite, Diorite etc are the Igneous Rock.

Types of Igneous Rock?

Igneous Rocks are Two Types Extrusive Rock & Intrusive Rock.

Extrusive/Rock: Extrusive rocks are formed when the molten magma cools and freezes above or at the surface of the earth. They are also known as Volcanic or Effusive rocks and have a fine-grained crystalline structure.

For Example, Trap, Dolomite\, Tuff, Scoria, Andesite, Dacite, Rhyolite, Pumice, etc.

Intrusive Rock- Due to the cooling of magma at a deep/considerable depth from the earth's surface this type of rock is classified into two categories.

  • Plutonic Rock-These rocks are formed when the molten magma freezes at a deep depth from the earth's surface is known as Plutonic Rocks. These rocks have coarse-grained crystalline structures.
For Example-Granite, Syenite, Pegmatite, Gabbro and Diorite.
  • Hapabyssal Rock -These rocks are formed when molten magma is solidifies at a shallow depth from the earth's surface. This type of rock is a fine-grained crystalline structure.
          For Example-Dolerite, Diorite etc.
